I am sitting here, a little worn out pretty tired absolutely exhausted. You must know that I am really dedicated to this whole #Write31Days thing if I am taking the time to write tonight, because I can hardly keep my eyes open right now. I’m hoping the auto correct is on its A-Game, because I am probably not the most coherent speller right now.
Why am I so bone-tired? Tonight was trunk-or-treat at my church. We’ve been through a lot lately, with three funerals in just a few weeks. On top of that, we’re a church of sinners, and we deal with human-sinner issues like gossip and pride and other stuff. It’s hard sometimes being an active member of a Jesus-seeking church. It’s easy to focus on the bad.
But my faith in my church is always restored at things like Trunk-or-Treat. I love seeing everyone there working for the common goal of doing something nice for our community. Our small church served about 250 people tonight. We fed them, played games with the kids and adults, painted faces, took pictures, and gave the children enough candy to keep them on a sugar-high for days.
Everyone used their gifts and talents and everything ran so smoothly. It was evident that God was there working, too.
I hope that the people who came were able to stop for a moment and feel God’s love through us.
I am thankful for the chance to be reminded why I love my church. Because we’re a group of Jesus-loving sinners saved by grace. We do wrong, of course, but we come together to do the hard work that He calls us to do.
And that is the church.
