Hi everyone! The blog has been down for a couple of days while I have been making some changes and switching over to a self-hosted platform. This will give me a lot more flexibility and allow me to do some fun things that I haven’t been able to do so far. I really hope to grow the blog, so this is exciting for me.
Anyway, I am getting the blog back online now, but it is far from finished! You’ll probably notice some more additions over the next couple of weeks, but I hope that you like what I’ve done so far.
While I was working on the new header for Mommy in Bonlee, I stacked up all of the books on my bedside table and took some pictures of them. I think that the books beside someone’s bed are very telling of them and their life. I couldn’t get all of the books to fit into the size of picture that I needed, so I thought i would share a full-size picture with you and tell you a little about what I’m reading right now (or at least hoping to read).
So, you can see that I have quite a large stack of books right now! On the bottom is Kathy Duffy’s 100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum. I am almost finished ordering everything I need for Charlie to start kindergarten in August, so I won’t need this book again for a little while.
I have a couple of magazines in my stack: Real Simple and Martha Stewart. Honestly, I threw them out after I took this picture! They were stressing me out with all of their to-do’s!
Then there is Backyard Poultry Naturally. We are currently on our second batch of chickens after the “Chicken Massacre of 2014,” as I am calling it.
And….who can go without a “Dummies” book for something????
Summer Girls is a book from the library that is absolutely plaguing me! I have only had time to read the first couple of chapters, but it is overdue and I owe about $6 on it!!! I keep picturing myself laying somewhere like the pool or beach reading it, but I just need to get real with myself and take the book back.
A couple of children’s books are always next to my bed. Who knows when I will have an extra snuggler who wants to get in an extra book? My Mother is Mine is one of my favorites to read to the kids. I can’t always get through it without a tear, though!
My mom gave me Canning for a New Generation which is a really cool, modern take on canning and preserving. I like to just look through it for inspiration and new ideas. Usually I can a new type of jam or preserve every year. Everyone pretty much knows what to expect from me for Christmas!
That big, huge book is Writers Market. I bought it for a creative writing class I took in February. It has almost every publisher North America in it, along with their submission guidelines. Now I just need to write some stuff to submit…..
Of course, the most important thing on my stack is my Bible. I have had it forever, and really need to invest in a new one that I don’t need to squint to see, but I just can’t bring myself to part with it! I have so many notes in it, and even a few scribbles from the kids. I have been making an effort to read out of it lately instead of reading the Bible off of the computer. I want the kids to see me reading out of the Bible, not staring at a screen
Books we read say a lot about us. What’s on your bedside table right now?
*I just want to say thank you to my friend Kerri for all of her help with Mommy in Bonlee. If you ever need help with your blog, she is the woman to go to!
I love this! I usually have books on my bedside table, too. But my husband considers anything that can be seen ‘clutter’. So I have to put them away. haha! I need to get a canning book, so I might look into the one you have. Also… you’re going to homeschool? I always wanted to do that, but I feel like I wouldn’t be very good at it. I’d love if you did blog posts on yours and Charlie’s progress and your thoughts and tips!
LOVE your ‘new’ blog! 😉
Thanks, Kerri! We are really excited about homeschooling. It was something that we went back and forth on for awhile, but we know it’s the right decision for us. I bet you would be great at it!
Love Duffy’s book! It was always a great place to start before going to the home school conference / book fair in Winston-Salem each year with my girls. Not familiar with My Mother is Mine – will have to check that out!
Pam, it is the sweetest little book. It is one of those that I have memorized because I have read it to the kids so many times!
We went to the conference last year. I will say-it was a bit overwhelming! There are so many things available as resources.
My bedside pile mainly consists of number puzzles I have downloaded and my Nook
I had a Kindle for awhile, but it ended up dying on me so I have gone back to the good old-fashioned books.
